Having computers that are updated on a regular basis is important for the security of your network. Malware and Virus authors are constantly looking for weaknesses in the operating system. Companies like Microsoft, the authors of Microsoft Windows, have the constant task of finding and patching their operating systems to keep these malicious hackers from stealing your data. As time goes on, Microsoft ends support for their older operating systems so they can shift their attention to supporting their mainstream operating systems.
On April 8th 2014, Microsoft ended support for Windows XP. Many users were told they would stop receiving windows updates. Along with Microsoft, many popular browsers like Mozilla Firefox and Google chrome also ended support for this operating system. Many antivirus software companies also ended support. Having an operating system that was no longer updated nor protected by antivirus software leaves your system vulnerable to hackers and identity thieves.
On January 14, 2020, Microsoft will again end support for one of their flagship operating systems. Windows 7 will no longer be updated. If we have learned anything from the past, many browser and antivirus companies will drop support for this operating system. It is important that you plan now so you can create a budget to upgrade all of your computers by the expected deadline.
At this point in time, Cowabunga Computers has not seen any disadvantages or cons with the new Windows 10 operating system. Every user we have migrated to the new operating system has had a good experience. Microsoft has made many advancements on the back end of the operating system to provide a better more stable computing experience. We highly recommend and urge you to consider upgrading some of your computers now, and over the course of the next year to save from the headache and hassle of last minute planning and budget shortfalls.
