Another year has come and gone. 2005 was a blur but through this blur, we have made some friends, learned from experiences and most importantly, had a chance to experience highlights. Some experiences I want to share with you from our company:
1) Voted #38 as one of the fastest 50 growing companies in Hawaii
2) Increased our vehicle count with a Cow Truck
3) Upgraded all equipment in our office
4) Hired into our office, Tyler, Mari and Akiva
5) Bid a good luck and farewell to Marshall
From all of our family at Cowabunga! Computers to yours, we wish everyone a safe and wonderful Holiday Season. We look forward to being with you again in 2006!

Ever misplaced a file, or a bunch of files? This is a trick I've used in the past to save types of data off of machines we see here at our Cowabunga! Computers office. The first thing you need to know is what type of file you're looking for. This could be a .doc (Word file), or .mp3 (music file), etc. Go to your Start button, then go to Search. Click on All Files and Folders. In the All or Part of the Filename field, type in "*.filetype" (without the quotation marks). For example, if I wanted to find all the Word documents on my computer, I'd type in *.doc. Never lose a file again!

Security is still a hot topic in the IT world. Some tips to making sure you are nice and secure for a good 2006:
1) Make sure you are running the latest version of antivirus.
2) A lot of antivirus software companies issue licenses for only one year. Make sure you still have a valid copy!
3) Automatic updating. Configure your software so it will automatically update the latest version of your antivirus.
4) Don’t EVER ever ever ever (did I say it enough?) open attachments that you are not expecting. Friend or no friend, viruses don’t care. If you get an attachment from a friend, call them or send them an email back asking if they sent you something. You would be surprised!

Microsoft is taking security very serious and the new operating system currently in Beta addresses these from all angles. Don’t worry, Windows XP will be around for a while and it will still take some time before MS Vista(new Operating System) gets mainstream. BUT Windows did bid a farewell to support for Win98 and WinME operating systems. If you have one of these, it might be a good time to upgrade your equipment!
One last note. Phishing… There is a ton of email going out that still looks authentic. It might look like it came from your bank or internet provider etc. In the end, use your better judgement. If they wanted to get in touch with you, then they will absolutely get in touch with you other than by email.
Remember these tips in your head and have yourself a wonderful 2006!
